Notice of Collection for California Residents

Earning your trust requires integrity, dependability, competence and transparency. Modern Woodmen of America takes the responsibility of protecting your personal information seriously. This brochure outlines the categories of information we collect, our business purpose for doing so, your rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA) and where you can find additional information.

Categories of personal information we may have collected within the last 12 months

Records of personal property, products or services purchased, obtained, or considered, credit history, motor vehicle reports, driving history or other purchasing or consuming histories or tendencies.

 

Internet or other electronic network activity information

 

Information regarding a consumer's interaction with an internet website, if a “Contact us” or other request for information form was completed and submitted.

 

Sensory data

  

Audio, electronic, visual, thermal, olfactory, or similar information

Professional or employment-related information

 

Applications, resumes, background check, current or past job history or performance evaluations.

Nonpublic education information (as defined in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 U.S.C. section 1232g, 34 C.F.R. Part 99)

 

Education records directly related to a student maintained by an educational institution or party acting on its behalf, such as grades, transcripts, class lists, student schedules, student identification codes, student financial information, or student disciplinary records.

 

Inferences drawn from any of the information

Profile about a consumer reflecting the consumer's preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, intelligence, abilities, and aptitudes.

 

Personal information does not include:

  • Publicly available information.
  • Deidentified or aggregated consumer information.
  • Other types of information specifically excluded by the CCPA, for example, personal information governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act or the California Financial Information Privacy Act.

Business purposes for which information is collected

We ask for only the personal information necessary to deliver products and services and/or to consider opportunities for employment, volunteer positions or field positions. For each Category listed above, the information is used to:

  • Fulfill or meet the reason you provided the information, such as responding to an inquiry about our products or services.
  • Process applications for products or services you have applied for or requested.
  • Provide the product(s) or service(s) you have applied for or requested.
  • Process your requests, purchases, transactions and payments, and to prevent transactional fraud.
  • Offer you additional products and services.
  • Evaluate and pay claims for your benefits.
  • Provide support and manage your certificate(s) or account(s).
  • Administer and offer fraternal member benefits available to you as a member of Modern Woodmen of America.
  • Communicate with you, members and prospects about Modern Woodmen of America and its products, services and benefits.
  • Test, analyze, develop and improve our products and services.
  • Process your application for employment, volunteer leadership or field position.

Your rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018

The California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA) provides consumers (California residents) with specific rights regarding their personal information.  These include: 

  • Right to Notice: At or before the time personal information is collected, consumers have the right to be informed about the categories of information that may be collected and the business purpose for which it will be used.
  • Right to Know: A consumer has the right to request a business that collects a consumer’s personal information disclose to that consumer the categories of personal information the business has collected, or the specific pieces of personal information the business has collected.
  • Right to Deletion: In many circumstances, consumers can request a business delete any personal data that has been collected on them. This right is subject to certain exceptions.
  • Right to Opt-Out:Consumers have the right to opt-out of the sale of their personal data.
  • Right to Equal Service: A consumer cannot be discriminated against because of a request to exercise any of the rights provided by the CCPA.

Modern Woodmen of America does not sell personal information.

Confidentiality and security

We use strict standards of security and confidentiality to protect personal information that we have about you. Only employees who are trained in the proper handling of your information and who must have that information to perform their jobs will be allowed to see and use your information. We have physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with applicable federal and state regulations to keep your personal information safe.
