Frank and Hazel’s story
Modern Woodmen members: Frank (quoted here) and Hazel Champagne
City: Benton, Ark.
Occupation: Retired
Their Modern Woodmen representative: Cheryl Tidwell, Sherwood, Arkansas
Why is estate planning important to you? We set up a living trust for Hazel and me. This is a second marriage for us, and we wanted everything set up properly. But the most important thing was setting up a trust for my grandson. Robert has autism. He will need help with his finances, a place to live and help with his daily living after we’re gone.
How is Modern Woodmen helping you? Cheryl listened to our concerns and helped us get a plan together. She also set up an appointment and accompanied us to the attorney’s office.
What’s something you were surprised to learn during this process? If you just have a will, that information is filed at the courthouse for anyone to review. A trust is between you, your family and the attorney.
What words of wisdom do you have for others? Keep good records and know where all your important papers are.
Cheryl's advice: When it comes to estate planning, everyone’s situation is different. Some people have circumstances where they need a living trust. Some people just need beneficiaries updated. Do the work, get your plan completed and then go live your life. You’ll feel good knowing you have secured your family’s future.

Term life insurance
No one expects to have a fatal accident, get sick or die too soon, but what if? What if those who depend on your income no longer could? Term life insurance can be an affordable way to get the protection you need to keep your family, your business, and your hopes and dreams alive. With term life insurance, your beneficiaries receive income-tax free money if you die during the term period – without the delays and expense of probate.
Chapters
These local groups of Modern Woodmen members come together regularly for social, educational and volunteer activities. Chapter activities are experiences, not sales events, and are open to members of all ages. Members 55 and older can also participate in Summit chapters – special groups targeted to the interests of this age group.
